Hello,

Welcome to April! Hope the first quarter of your year was great.

First, I want to mention that I now have Reiki music CDs available on my website. Also, my e-book, Self-Care: Living a Healthy Life through Massage, Somatics, Exercise, Stress Management, & More, is available for Kindle from Amazon.

This issue of Just the Right Touch covers a few ways to use aromatherapy and essential oils to help ease stress, aches, and pains.

Essential oils to help when you’re stressed or feeling blue:

  • Basil
  • Geranium
  • Neroli (orange blossom)
  • Lavender
  • Lemongrass
  • Roman chamomile
  • Rose

Essential oils to help ease aches and pains in your muscles or joints:

  • Atlas cedarwood
  • Birch
  • Eucalyptus
  • Peppermint
  • Rosemary
  • Roman chamomile

Ways to use your essential oils:

Diffusion. Buy a good-quality aromatherapy diffuser to diffuse the scent essential oils into the air.

Self-massage. For direct use on the skin, dilute essential oils in a carrier oil. Carrier oils include almond, walnut, and grapeseed oils, but any high-quality vegetable oil also works. Always do a patch test first to make sure you aren't sensitive to an oil.

To blend a massage oil, add about 10 drops of essential oil to an ounce of carrier oil or lotion.

Try this blend for massaging sore or cramped muscles:
2 drops chamomile
2 drops birch
2 drops rosemary
4 drops lavender
One ounce carrier oil

Baths. Add 5 to 10 drops of your favorite essential oil to a tub of warm water, and soak.

Compresses. Add 5 to 10 drops of essential oils to a sink of very warm water. Soak a clean towel in the water. Wring out the towel and apply it to your sore body part. Resoak the towel when it cools. Use for a total time of 20 to 30 minutes. Note: Do not use heat on inflammed areas - try a cold compress.

Create a New World of Balance — Simply, Naturally, and Efficiently

by Francoise Rapp

What makes you feel balanced? Do you ever wish you could simply stop the clock, pause and take a deep breath, or just escape to a place where no one can find you? If this sounds familiar, then it's time for you to focus on how to create and maintain a sane balance in your life. But what does it mean to feel balanced? We have a tendency to chase after the concept of a balanced life without first exploring what it means to us individually.

We come across suggestions and recommendations to lead a balanced life each day in magazines, on television, and online. But it's easy to become confused and overloaded with all these "secrets" to a balanced life. So ask yourself...what makes YOU feel really good? Does exercise make you feel content? Do you feel your best when you are well rested? Is nurturing important to you? Or do you crave having extra time just for yourself?

What is really required for your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual self to feel sane? Just for today, spend no more than 20 minutes to evaluate what you need and want to give yourself to feel more balanced. Then write down a plan to make it really happen.

Need a little extra help? The following aromatherapy blend will help you to pause and clear a bit of mental and emotional activity that may blur your sense of what you truly want. Also use this blend to maintain your balance and sanity. Use this blend to anoint your solar plexus, pour a few drops into your bathtub, or simply inhale the scent deeply.

Use a 10-ml (ed. note: about 1/3 of an ounce) bottle. Pour the essential oils in first and then add an organic vegetable oil to fill the bottle:

  • 8 drops sandalwood
  • 8 drops lavender
  • 6 drops cypress

Choosing Essential Oils

It's important to buy your essential oils from a company that guarantees the quality of its oils. There are many low-quality essential oils on the market that might smell good but have little other benefit. Although it's not a guarantee of quality, one thing you can do is look for a Latin name on the bottle and the statement that it's 100% pure essential oil.

I use and distribute Young Living essential oils because I am convinced of their quality. Young Living offers pure essential oils and unique essential oil blends sourced from the world's finest plants. The oils are NOT diluted with chemical and synthetic additives and are carefully prepared to maintain plant integrity.

The Young Living Therapeutic Grade (YLTG) Promise is that every essential oil Young Living distills or sources has the highest naturally occurring blend of constituents to maximize the desired therapeutic effect.
