Hello,

Welcome to 2009! I hope your year is off to a great start. This first newsletter of the year offers information about bodywork based on electrical impulses and energy. Then, if you are interested in the health of your finances, be sure to read the Financial Wellness article.

Electrical Bodywork?

Here are descriptions of two forms of bodywork based on the electrical nature of the human body.

Vita Flex

Vita Flex means "vitality through the reflexes." This specialized technique, in contrast to the steady pressure of reflexology, uses a rolling and releasing motion that involves placing four fingers flat on the skin, rolling onto the fingertips, and continuing over onto the fingernail to activate reflex points.

This technique promotes good health by tapping into and supporting the body's self-regulating system while assisting the body in the healing process. The body has over 1,400 known Vita Flex points that can release many kinds of tension, congestion, and imbalances.

Vita Flex is based on the belief that the body is piezoelectric, meaning that energy is released through electrical impulses created by contact between the fingertips and the reflex points. This electrical charge follows the nerve pathways to a break in the electrical circuit caused by toxins, damaged tissues, or loss of oxygen. The currents generated are believed to be therapeutic.

Bowen Technique

Another form of bodywork based on electrical impulses is Bowen Technique, developed in Australia by Tom Bowen. This technique sends neurological impulses to the brain that immediately cause responses of muscle relaxation and pain reduction. The technique creates energy surges, which are concentrated in specific areas of the body using "blockers" or "stoppers" that are released when you stand up.

The practitioner "rolls" over the muscles with her fingers, working the muscles in sets. Between sets, the practitioner leaves the room for at least two minutes to let your body relax and make its own adjustments.

The Bowen Technique helps the body remember how to heal itself. Electrical impulses sent to the nervous system remind the body to regain normal movement in joints, muscles, and tendons, which helps relieve muscle spasms and increase blood and lymph flow.

More Energy Healing Techniques

Everything is energy, so all healing ultimately involves energy, but energy healing techniques focus specifically on affecting the energy of the human body to support self-healing. Here are brief descriptions of some common energy healing techniques:

Healing Touch is a holistic energy therapy that emphasizes compassionate, heart-centered cared in which the provider uses gentle, non-invasive touch to influence and support the human energy system within and surrounding the body.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient art of harmonizing the life energy in the body.

Polarity Therapy views health as a reflection of the condition of the energy field. Therapeutic methods designed to balance the field for health benefit involve energy-based bodywork, diet, exercise, and self-awareness.

Quantum Touch uses breathing and body awareness exercises to focus and amplify life-force energy.

Reiki is an ancient Japanese Healing Art that channels energy through the hands.

Therapeutic Touch is an intentionally directed process of energy exchange during which the practtioner uses the hands as a focus to facilitate the healing process.
