Eutony

Eutony means well-balanced tension. Gerda Alexander, developer of this somatic practice, said that it is a Western way of experiencing unity of the whole person and that this unity liberates creative forces and develops the ability to make contact with others while maintaining one’s individuality.

"The way in which you realize yourself is unique. If you do not undertake the quest of finding your own way, you run the risk of losing yourself." - Gerda Alexander

The goal of Eutony is to widen and deepen the whole range of expression and open up creativity. The work is gentle and never forces. Presence is of the upmost importance:

  • awareness of mind
  • sensation of the outer form of the body
  • being in contact with one’s surroundings
  • awareness of breathing, circulation, tissues, organs, and bones.

This somatic practice is not only about movement awareness, but also about developing depth in oneself and growing toward a total person.
