Can you massage cellulite and expect to see improvement in the appearance of this dimply skin?
Cellulite develops as fat cells under the skin become larger, pushing up against the skin, while at the same time, connective cords attaching the skin to the underlying muscle pull down, causing an uneven surface or dimpling.
The theory, in part, underlying anti-cellulite massage is that massage increases circulation and encourages waste removal, leading to a reduction in the appearance of cellulite. Some sources believe that the gentle strokes of lymphatic drainage can help reduce cellulite, while other sources advocate the use of deep, vigorous massage.
Here's what the Mayo Clinic has to say about cellulite treatment:
Weight loss using a healthy diet and regular exercise probably has the most benefits. However, not everyone with cellulite needs to lose weight, and even with weight loss, the cellulite doesn't completely go away; it just becomes less noticeable.
Lasers and radiofrequency systems are a promising medical therapy. Three of these types of treatment are available: One system combines negative tissue massage, radiofrequency, and infrared light. Another system combines massage with diode laser energy. The third system uses radiofrequency at deep and superficial levels simultaneously to treat cellulite. All three systems require a series of treatments. But the results are temporary, only lasting up to six months.
Although liposuction removes fat cells, it may make cellulite look worse, although newer laser-assisted liposuction may more effectively treat cellulite.
Applying 0.3 percent retinol cream twice a day has been shown to improve the appearance of cellulite after six months.
Lipomassage
One technique to massage cellulite is Lipomassage. Lipomassage from Endermologie uses a hand-held machine to knead you skin between rollers. Endermologie claims that Lipomassage can permanently get rid of stubborn fat that is resistant to physical exercise and dieting, and you will start seeing results after six 35-minute sessions. However, the Mayo Clinic writes that you may see a slight improvement after this treatment, but the results are temporary.
