Massage Therapy
Continuing Education

As a professional massage therapist, the best reason to pursue massage therapy continuing education is that it opens you to a lifetime of learning that will keep you challenged and engaged.

Of course, you may also have to meet the requirements for continuing education specified by your license (if you have one) and professional organization memberships.

For example, both the American Massage Therapy Association and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork require 48 hours of massage continuing education over four years.

Tips for Choosing Continuing Massage Education

  • Know the continuing education requirements for your license, certifications, and professional organizations. Be sure the courses you take meet the requirements.
  • Know your learning style. Do you learn best by listening, doing, or reading? Select courses that match your style.
  • Check out an instructor’s training experience, qualifications, and style.
  • If you take home-study courses, understand the completion requirements.
  • Set up an education budget and find courses that meet your requirements and are within your budget.

  • Understand cancellation deadlines and fees before you sign up.
  • Choose courses that interest you.
